Voltron 2.0

Voltron 2.0 is a set of 5 highly detailed, 3D printable robotic lions, conceived by designer Juri Pranjic. Jonathan Michael Johnson built custom editions of these lions for a charity auction to benefit Alt_Chicago - an artist led non-profit creating new opportunities and revitalizing communities around Chicagoland

Each lion is fully articulated and weighs between 2 and 4lbs. Though not visible in every photo, each of the 5 lions is paired with a custom display base and dimmer. Inlays of cast tin, wood and transparent resin pick up the light from the base, infusing the technical design with natural elements.

The most recent artist cohort from Redemptive Plastics at the Design Museum of Chicago for a book release. It explores how each have grown personally through their relationship with art.

In this auction 40% of all sales were donated to alt_Chicago - an artist led nonprofit creating new opportunities and revitalizing communities around Chicagoland. Pronounced 'alt space chicago' they're based in the Austin neighborhood and their family of programs have grown too large to mention everything. Even more impressive considering they've only been around a few years. Among other successes they offer mentorship (Redemptive Plastics) and direct outreach (alt_Market) to address specific community needs.
